LA Successful Recipient of Sport Australia Participation Grant

Lacrosse Australia, in partnership with UniSport Australia, is proud to announce that we have been a successful recipient of Sport Australia’s Participation Grant Program.

Through the Sport Australia’s Participation Grant program Lacrosse Australia will deliver a new program called Social Lax. A social & modified lacrosse program targeting individuals between 18-25. The program aims to provide the cohort, who’ve missed community sport, recreational activity & attendance at universities opportunities over the last 18 months, with the opportunity to engage in physical & social activities in more accessible, safer & higher-quality environment. The program will also address identified barriers such as time, cost, access and equipment.

Social Lax will be rolled out over multiple states in targeted and identified locations. While we are targeting a certain age group, we anticipate many other participants will take up the opportunity to be involved in the program. We envision that Social Lax will be delivered in central locations within high quality environments such as university facilities, multi-sport complex/venues or indoor facilities. Provision of equipment such as sticks and bibs have been built into the program to make it accessible to new players or players coming back to lacrosse and we will also be striving to have Social Lax held at different time slots, away from the weekend, to provide an opportunity to those who have commitments on a weekend.

Social Lax will be a modified version of lacrosse and may differ from program to program however it will consist of social games where individuals, or groups of friends can join and not have to be registered directly to a lacrosse club.

For the development and delivery of Social Lax, Lacrosse Australia has the opportunity to expand our workforce and lacrosse deliverers to fully implement and deliver this new program. In the coming weeks we will provide further communication regarding these opportunities.

Further, we would like to take this time to thank Sport Australia for the support and opportunity, through the Participation Grant Program, to further grow lacrosse and engage the targeted participants. We would also like to thank UniSport Australia for their support and partnership through the application process and with future delivery. Finally, Lacrosse Australia would like to thank our Member Associations who provided their written support through the application process.

Lacrosse Australia looks forward to providing further news regarding the Social Lax Program and begin delivery in 2022.
