Inaugural Australian Under 16 Rosters finalised for 2025 APLU Sixes Championship

New Australian Under 16 Sixes head coaches Sascha Newmarch and Gareth Allen have today announced their rosters ahead of the 2025 Asia-Pacific Lacrosse Union Championship with the teams set to compete in Jeju, South Korea next month.

Australian Girls Under 16 Sixes head coach Sascha Newmarch, said that the selection camp delivered a weekend of high intensity, fast-paced lacrosse.

“A true highlight was seeing all the girls bonding and forming the start of undoubtedly lifelong friendships.

“It was an incredibly tough decision to finalise the roster and I want to commend all 37 girls on their resilience and willingness to keep going regardless of the conditions.

“A big thanks to all the support staff, umpires, guest coaches and parents for making it a successful weekend. This is just the start for all the girls in this talented squad, and we can’t wait to support you all.

“Congratulations to the twelve players selection to the very first Under 16 Australian team, and to everyone that put their hand up for selection – keep your head up and keep working hard, good things are just around the corner.”

Australian Boys Under 16 Sixes head coach Gareth Allen, said that during the selection trials, athletes were exposed to a greater level of competition within a program that demands a higher standard of behaviour.

“Our players were consistently challenged throughout the weekend with unfamiliar playing styles and concepts,” said Allen.

“The players were incredibly fortunate to receive direct instruction from current Australian Men’s Sixes squad members Marcus Arambatzis and Sean Aaron as well as 2024 Major League Sixes MVP, Steve Stojkos.

“The competition was fierce and the level of skill and talent was exceptionally high making the task of selecting the 12-person roster incredibly difficult, with a considerable amount of players making strong cases for selection.

“I would like to sincerely thank every player for their remarkable effort throughout what was an incredibly enjoyable experience. We look forward to not only preparing the final team for the APLU Championships in Korea, but to witnessing the development of this broader age group across the nation as they apply their new learnings at the club level.”

The teams will descend on Jeju Island in South Korea for the APLU Under 16 Championship which will be held from 27 August 2025, concluding 31 August 2025.
