Australian Men’s Field Team announces roster for 2026 Asia Pacific Championship

Lacrosse Australia has today announced the Australian Men’s National Field Team selected to compete at the 2026 Asia-Pacific Lacrosse Union (APLU) Championship, which will be held on 6-11 January in Wellington, New Zealand.

The event serves as the official qualification pathway to the 2027 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship in Tokyo, marking the first time the Australian men’s program has been required to qualify for a world championship.

Head Coach Glenn Morley said that the final squad reflected a carefully balanced and highly competitive group, selected with a strong emphasis on current form, readiness, versatility and character.

“With a short lead-in to the qualifier, coaches prioritised players demonstrating the ability to compete at speed, execute under pressure, and contribute effectively across multiple phases of the game,” said Morley.

“We have chosen a group that can play fast, make smart decisions and adapt quickly, and most importantly, they are all outstanding people who understand what it means to represent Australia.”

The team enters the qualifier with a clear identity built around athleticism, physicality, and two-way contribution, with Morley highlighting the squad’s athletic profile as a major strength.

“This is a physically impressive unit, and we intend to maximise that advantage. Our style will be built on movement, pressure and intent.”

Experience and emerging talent have been blended deliberately with thirteen returning athletes from the 2023 World Championship providing a proven international core, while a group of in-form younger players – including three who recently competed at the World Lacrosse U20 Championship in South Korea – add energy and momentum.

“This balance gives us both stability and ambition,” said Morley.

“Our experienced core understands what it takes at the top level, while the younger players being creativity and a hunger to perform.”

Preparation for the qualifier has been strong, following a competitive national camp and consistent domestic competition, with State-based training blocks to commence before the team assembles in Melbourne for a final camp.

Morley said that the group’s form and mindset provided real confidence heading to New Zealand.

“Both sides of the ball are trending in the right direction. Our offense has great chemistry coming out of the recent Major League Sixes event, and our defensive unit is fresh, motivated and committed to the system,” said Morley.

“This squad is built on a foundation of connection, discipline and professionalism, with a strong sense of purpose in representing Australia on the international stage. It embodies all the qualities we value – tough, fast, united and committed. We’re ready for the challenge, and excited to take this next step.”
