2021 LA Best & Fairest Players

Lacrosse Australia is proud to announce the winner of the O.C Isaachsen and the Shelley Maher Trophies for 2021. These trophies are awarded to the best and fairest players from around the country based on officials voting following each home and way qualifying games.

2021 Shelley Maher Trophy Winner

Olivia Parker (SA)

LA Chair, Glenn Morley and LA Directors have much pleasure in congratulating Olivia on being awarded the 2021 Shelley Maher Trophy.  The Shelley Maher Trophy is awarded to the best and fairest player Australia-wide in the most senior women’s State competition home and away qualifying round matches, based on votes awarded by match umpires.

Olivia had an outstanding season playing a total of 12 games in the home and away season for Woodville Lacrosse Club’s State League Women’s side scoring 19 goals for the season. Olivia is currently part of the Australian Women’s squad which is preparing for the 2022 World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship, Towson MD USA. Wed 29 Jun – Sat 9 Jul 2022, and the 2022 IWGA The World Games, Birmingham AL USA. Tues 12 – Sat 16 Jul 2022.

The trophy will be presented to Olivia in 2022, date and venue to be advised.

This award named in honour of Shelley Maher was instituted in 2012 by the Australian Lacrosse Association (now Lacrosse Australia).  As the last President of Women’s Lacrosse Australia (2001-2009) Shelley committed to excellence in all areas of administration.  In her home State of Victoria Shelley was President of Women’s Lacrosse Victoria (1998-2001), and was elected a Life Member in 2001, also elected a Life Member of Women’s Lacrosse Australia in 2009.  She was active as a player with Williamstown Women’s Lacrosse Club and represented Victoria in senior competition (2002, 2005).  Shelley was an the Australian Lacrosse Association Director (2007-2010) and Women’s Sector Director of the Federation of International Lacrosse (2008-July 2017).  She was awarded the honour of a FIL Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017.

2021 O.C. Isaachsen Trophy Winner

Brayden Panting (WA)

LA Chair, Glenn Morley and LA Directors have much pleasure in congratulating Brayden on being awarded the 2021 O. C. Isaachsen Trophy. The Isaachsen Trophy is awarded to the best and fairest player Australia-wide in the most senior men’s State competition home and away qualifying round matches, based on votes awarded by match referees.

Brayden played a total of 15 games in the home and away season for Wembley Lacrosse Club’s State League Men’s side scoring 37 goals (equal second highest), with an average of 2.5 goals a game and also recorded 10 assists for the home and away season. Brayden is currently part of the Australian Men’s squad which is preparing for the 2022  IWGA The World Games, Birmingham Alabama USA, Fri 8 – Tues 12 July 2022

The trophy will be presented to Brayden in 2022, date and venue to be advised.

This award was donated by Cedric Isaachsen to the Australian Lacrosse Council (ALC) in 1963.  He was a remarkable man who had a distinguished military career, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and earning the honour of Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (DSO), followed by a distinguished legal career.  Mr Isaachsen was President of ALC 1962-65, then Vice-President for 14 years until 1979.  He was elected as a Fellow of the ALC in 1994.  He lived in South Australia and died in 2009, aged 97 years.
